Malan Steyn (197*-) is an Afrikaans playwright, scriptwriter and lecturer.

Training

He studied drama and Afrikaans literature at the University of Stellenbosch, where he did a B.A. Honours course in playwriting.

Career

In 2009 he became a part-time lecturer in Drama at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, teaching playwriting.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He is the author of Die Kaal Generaals (“The naked generals” - 199*), **, Roadkill/Padkos (1999-2000), Outopsie (2001), Bok-bok staan styf, (KKNK, 2002), Eet Alles (“Eat everything” - Aardklop, 2004) and Onbekend (Aardklop, 2004)***. Co-author of Rooikôppetjie (with Saartjie Botha, Francois Toerien and Nicole Holm) and Die Joseph en Mary Affair (with Ilse Oppelt - Woordfees, 2003). His play Johnny is nie dood nie was published in 2011.

Chief writer for the TV series Binnelanders.

He was on the panel of judges for the Kanna Award in 2016 and 2017.
