First performed at the Haymarket Theatre, London, on 2 July 1788. Published by G. G. J and J. Robinson,1788.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1802: Performed in the African Theatre, Cape Town by the Garrison Players on 31 March, with The Agreeable Surprise (O'Keeffe).
1822: Performed with The Rivals (Sheridan) on Monday 28 October by the Garrison Amateur Company, as a benefit performance for Mrs Smith, Mrs Delamore and Mrs Green.
