Guga S'Thebe Theatre
Guga S'Thebe Theatre is a 200 seater, multi-purpose performance space, an extention of the Guga S'Thebe Arts and Cultural Centre and part of the wider Langa Cultural Precinct. Funded by the City of Cape Town and Christina Bacht of AIT ArhitekturSalon, the project started in 2013 and was officially handed over to the City of Cape Town’s Arts and Culture Department on Wednesday, 23 September 2015 to commemorate Heritage Day. The theatre has been built to a design by Carin Smuts of CCS Studio, along with inputs from various national and international architecture students, using recyclable materials, notably 11 shipping containers. Paint for the brightly coloured structure was donated by Plascon SA and the work undertaken by many volunteers.
The space is intended as both a performance and an educational venue.
