Mr Poortemans, or "Den Heer Poortemans", (17**-18**) was possibly a member of Vlyt en Kunst and apparently a magic lantern[1] entertainer.
He appeared in Cape Town as part of an evening's entertainment presented by Vlyt en Kunst in the African Theatre on 10 September 1836. His contribution was an interlude, described as a "zeer prachtig Transparant" ("a very beautiful transparency"), while the rest of the programme included Montoni, of Het Kasteel van Udolpho (Duval/Bruggemans), Nognetzoo (Boniface), Het Fancy Bal!!!. Music was provided by the musical group De Vriendschap
