Original German title: Der Nachtwächter ("The Night Watchman"), first produced in the Vienna Burgtheater in 1812.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch inter alia by Salomon Deventer (published in 1844); by G. de Vos (in 1852).
Performance history in South Africa
10 September, 1825: performed as a two-act comedy in Cape Town by the children's company Tot Oefening en Smaak, probably directed by Joseph Suasso de Lima.
