East is a 1975 verse play by Steven Berkoff, dealing with growing up and rites of passage in London's rough East End.

The play was premiered at the Edinburgh Festival at the Traverse in 1975.

Presented in South Africa by the Baxter Theatre, directed by Christopher Weare in 1990 starring Jamie Bartlett, Lara Bye, Nick Ashby,

He did so again in 1994 for the Market Theatre Company. Produced by Michael Maxwell, set and lighting designer was Wesley France, costumes designed by Nadia Kruger. The cast: Jamie Bartlett (Mike), Gilda Blacher (Sylv), Michael Gritten (Les), Robert Colman (Mum), Joss Levine (Dad).
