Gilda Blacher (19**-) Actress, comedienne, writer and director for stage, film and TV.

Also known as Gilda Blacher Ayerst

Biography

Studied drama and English literature at University of the Witwatersrand, and entered the industry as an actress and stand up comedienne, often writing her own material, later also working as a creative director of Corporate Theatre and Events (January 1995 to January 2007), a freelance television writer (January 2000 to March 2008) and a creative director with Tin Rage Television (February 2004 - April 2010).

After her successful theatre career as performer and writer in South Africa, she moved to Australia to become an Award winning Television Director and Writer, Corporate Video Director and Community Arts practitionerin the Greater Melbourne Area.

In 2017 - 2018 she completed a Masters Degree in Film/Cinema/Video Studies at University of Melbourne.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She starred in Grease (Alexander Theatre, 1992) *The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in The Universe (Johannesburg Civic Theatre, 199*), Two Weeks with the Queen (1995).

She wrote and performed in On the Couch (Eauver the Top, Kalk Bay, 1993), Shopping and Schtupping (Theatre on the Square and Montreal Comedy Festival in 1999).

South African films include Inside Out (1998), Mazinyo Dot Q (TV Series, 2004) and Heart Aka 4 Minutes, a short film, 2017).

Awards, etc

Vita Award (KZN) 1994 for best new script as well as best actress for On the Couch with Gilda Blacher; Vita Award (Gauteng Region) Best Supporting Actress for Two Weeks with the Queen, 1995.
