A puppet show put on by the so-called "Automata" or "Automaton Figures", large mechanical puppets, of W.F.H. Parker. The performance apparently consisted of a "figure (Pop) dancing on the tight rope and then retiring from the stage in a splendid display of fireworks". (Advert in De Meditator, quoted by Bosman, 1928: p. 231).

Performance history in South Africa

Brought to in Cape Town by Mr Parker in 1837, when it was performed along with The Enchanted Turk, the dramatic play Children in the Wood and Joey Grimaldi's Trip to Brentford.
