The Open Air Theatre, Natal University/Pieter Scholtz Open Air Theatre, Howard Campus,UKZN
Situated on the campus of the University of Natal, Durban. A Greek-style amphitheatre, seating +- 400, founded by Elizabeth Sneddon, opened 25/2/1970 with Twelfth Night, and in the same year, Welcome Msomi’s Umabatha (a Zulu version of Macbeth), both directed by Pieter Scholtz. A venue for Shakespeare, Greek drama, dance, and plays for young audiences. To honour his contribution to theatre, and especially young people's theatre, the theatre was renamed the Pieter Scholtz Open Air Theatre on 13/4/1996.
