The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), a Section 21 Company, started operating on a full-time basis in 2001 by thirty retrenched musicians from the disbanded National Symphony Orchestra.
Role in supporting performance in South Africa
The orchestra has performed for several opera and theatrical-styled productions, including:
2010: La Bohème (Opera Africa)
2013: CREDO: A musical testament to the Freedom Charter
The orchestra has also worked in partnership with Opera Africa.
