Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra

The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), a Section 21 Company, started operating on a full-time basis in 2001. Founded by thirty retrenched musicians from the disbanded National Symphony Orchestra.

Role in supporting performance in South Africa

The orchestra has performed for several opera and theatrical-styled productions, including:

2010: La Bohème (Opera Africa)

2011: Carmen (Opera Africa)

2013: CREDO: A musical testament to the Freedom Charter

2023: Tosca (Cape Town Opera)

The orchestra has also worked in partnership with Opera Africa.
