Dion van Niekerk (?-) is an actor, director and academic.

Biography

In 2025, he was a lecturer in Drama and Theatre at the University of the Free State (UFS).

Training

He studied at Rhodes University, and was awarded a BA in English and Drama (1991), BA Hons in Drama (1992) and a MA in Drama (Distinction) (2002). He was awarded a MFA in Theatre and Dance from Tulane University, USA (2006).

Career

He taught several courses at Rhodes University, both full-time and part-time, from 1994 – 2003 and again from 2006-2007, and for 2010. In 2011, he was resident director for Ubom! Eastern Cape Drama Company. He was Project Officer (Full time) for the National Arts Festival (2012 - 2015), and subsequently took up a role as lecturer at the University of the Free State.

As actor

He appeared in a number of productions while studying and working at the Rhodes University Drama Department. These include: The Crucible (1990), Through Blue (2000).
