Caesar is an Afrikaans play by André P. Brink (1935-2015).

The text

An original Afrikaans play, based on the life of Julius Caesar, published by Nasionale Pers Boekhandel, 1961. It was awarded the Eugène N. Marais Award of the SA Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns in 1963.

Performances

1965: First performed by the Universiteitsteater Stellenbosch during the Afrikaanse Toneelweek in the Bellville Civic Theatre in September. Directed by Fred Engelen who also played the lead role. Some of the other cast members were Charles Fryer, Piers Nicholson, Thea Kirstein, Rentia Human and Madeleine Heyns. Decor and costumes designed by Elaine Aucamp.
