Leon Kruger (1972-2021) is was an actor, director and playwright.

Biography

Born on 12 October, 1972 in Vanderbijlpark, he grew up in Kibler Park in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg.

He studied at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, but did not complete the course due to a back operation. He then studied radio broadcasting at the Cape Technicon and Birbeck College at the London School of Radio.

He died on 15 July, 2021, in Bellville, Cape Town, of COVID-19 complications, leaving his wife Frieda van den Heever and their two sons Basjan and Eugi.

As actor

He appeared in Mike van Graan’s Die Generaal, Toorberg (2005), God van Chaos (2011), Net ‘n Chilliburger en Chips Asseblief! (2015).

As writer/director

He wrote many plays, often one-person pieces, which he usually directed and often performed himself.

Among them have been Testosmoroon (2003), Ou Blare, Klei, Hie' Sit die Manne, Oupa en Ouma sit op die stoep (Aardklop (2009), Oupa en Ouma sit op die stoep en raak romanties (2013), Innie Rof (2015),

His drama Klei was nominated for a Smeltkroesprys in 2001.
