Biography
Born in Burgersdorp, she was a distant relative of André Huguenet’s.
Career
She signed her first contract in 1934 and joined André Huguenet's company on 16 January 1935 in Cape Town. In 1942 she joined the Pierre de Wet company.
In 1944, after a serious operation, she bid the stage farewell and turned to commercial art and the publicity and marketing sector. However, she still acted in films for Pierre De Wet (e.g. Pinkie se Erfenis, 1946).
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Paula made her debut as actress for Huguenet in Haar Egskeiding (“Her divorce”) in 1935. Other productions include Ek het 'n man vermoor (1935), Gevaarlike Huwelik (1935), Dorothy Brandon’s Die Kwaksalwer (1939), Satansloon (1942), Helshoogte (1943), Die Goeie Oue Tyd (1944), Nag het die Wind Gebring (NTO 1948).
She acted in the stage play Pinkie (1942-1943) as well as in the film version Pinkie se Erfenis released in 1946.
She also performed in the films Die Kaskenades van Dokter Kwak released in 1948 and Vadertjie Langbeen released in 1955.
Her substantial radio work, include Agamemnon (1944).
