The Irish Emigrant is a comic drama in two acts by John Brougham ()[1]

The original text

Originally titled Temptation, or The Price of Happiness when completed in 1849, later changed to Temptation, or The Irish Emigrant

First performed under that title in 1856, with Brougham in the lead. Later known simply as The Irish Emigrant.

Published in New York as Temptation, or The Irish Emigrant by Samuel French, 1856 (as French's American Drama. The Acting Edition. No. 20).

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1876: Performed in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town by the Disney Roebuck company, under the management of C. Wilstone, on 17 October, with Lord Dundreary ().

1877: Performed by Disney Roebuck and his company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 25 August, with Leah (Daly/Mosenthal).
