Haß und Liebe ("Hate and love") is a German play in four acts by Christian Friedrich Ferdinand Anselm von Bonin (1755 - 1813)[1]. (Also written Hasz und Liebe in Roman script.)

The original text

First published in Berlin by Friedrich Maurer in 1787.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as Haat en Liefde by H. Moolenijzer, published in Amsterdam by Rohloff, 1814.

Performance history in South Africa

1823: Produced in Dutch as Haat en Liefde by the amateur company Tot Nut en Vermaak on 7 June in the African Theatre, with as afterpiece De Spraaklooze (Von Kotzebue) (or as De Spraakloze according to Bosman, 1928).

1873: Produced in Dutch as Haat en Liefde by the amateur company Aurora II on 4 September in the Oddfellows Hall, with as afterpiece De Weddenschap (Melt J. Brink|Brink).
