The Caine Mutiny is a 1951 Pulitzer Prize–winning novel by Herman Wouk. After the novel's success, the court-martial sequence was adapted by Wouk into a full-length, two-act Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.
Directed by Charles Laughton, it was a success on the stage in 1954, opening five months before the release of the film.
In South Africa the play was presented by David Bloomberg for the Theatre Guild, at the Barn Theatre, Constantia, from 17-20 July 1958 with a repeat Theatre Guild production at The Labia Theatre in December 1961 starring Percy Sieff and others.
