This is an original work in Afrikaans, not a translation or adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar

The text

Based on the life of Julius Caesar, published by Nasionale Pers Boekhandel, 1961. The play was awarded the Eugène Maraisprys, an Afrikaans play based on the life of Julius Caesar.


Performances

1965: First performed by the University Theatre Stellenbosch during the Afrikaanse Toneelweek in the Bellville Civic Theatre in September 1965. Directed by Fred Engelen who also played the lead role. Some of the other cast members were Charles Fryer, Piers Nicholson, Thea Kirstein, Rentia Human and Madeleine Heyns. Decor designed by Elaine Aucamp.
