("Letters to a Red Roof"). A 2001 one-woman play written by Harry Kalmer. Winner of the Anglo Gold Smeltkroes Prize.

Subject
Mathilda Otto (73) is alone and has nobody to speak to and therefore she writes letters to the only thing she can see outside her bedroom window, the red roof of the next door neighbour's house. It becomes an ode to her life in Johannesburg.

Filmed for television as part of the series Van die Verhoog Af produced by Frank Opperman for broadcast on the KYKnet channel in 2005 starring Trix Pienaar. (Die Burger 8 July 2005).
Performance history in South Africa
Premiered at Aardklop in 2001, directed by Harry Kalmer, with Henriëtta Gryffenberg.
Staged at the KKNK 2002, and later in the State Theatre, directed by Harry Kalmer, with Elize Cawood.
