Originally a French novel, Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux (published as a serial in Le Gaulois September 1909 to January 1910; as a novel in April 1910 by Pierre Lafitte).
Numerous stage and film works have been based on it (see Wikipedia for a list of adaptations[1].
Below we list only those that have been produced in South Africa.

Performances in South Africa
Opened in 2004 at the Opera House, Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town and at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria.
In 2011 - 2012 another South African tour of the show, produced by Pieter Toerien, opened at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town and at the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg.
