Lynne Maree

(****-****). Actress, director, theatre manager. * Trained at the University of Cape Town?*. She worked at The Space in the 1970s, acting in Fragments, I’ll Ring for more Toast, It’s My Weekend, Too; Patty Hearst, Selle Ou Storie (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1974), Skyvers/Jollers, Snowhite & the Special Branch! (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1974), God’s Forgotten (Pieter-Dirk Uys, co-starring Magda Beukes and Christine Basson at Upstairs at The Market in 1975/1976), Strike up the Banned (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1976) A Tribute to Noel Coward– Fumed Oak and Red Peppers and Workplay. She directed Rape – A Revue and Nongogo for them, doing the designs.** Later roles include The Dresser (Ronald Harwood, 1980), In the 1990s she joined Chris van Niekerk to run a restaurant Theatre (Eauver the Top) in Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. * Starred in Brickhill-Burke’s production of Neil Simon’s Last of the Red Hot Lovers together with Melody O’Brian, Hal Orlandini and Brenda Wood at His Majesty’s in 1980. She starred in Ronald Harwood’s The Dresser together with Michael McCabe, Shelagh Holliday, Paddy Canavan, Michael Atkinson and Simon Swindell under direction by Leonard Schach at the Baxter in November 1980 and the Market in 1982. Together with Shelagh Holliday and Eric Flynn she starred Leonard Schach’s production of the staged version of Helene Hanff’s memoir, 84 Charing Cross Road at the Market in April 1982. Performed in Vanities (for Toerien/Firth in 1977) and in Sextet (for Toerien/Firth in 1979), also worked at The Space Theatre. (SACD1979/80)

Quoted from the programme for Snake Beneath the Rose performed in 1986: 'Lynne, a Capetonian, started her professional life at the Space Theatre and moved to Johannesburg in 1976. Essentially an actress, she also directs and is primarily interested in original indigenous works. This is her third engagement with Pieter Toerien productions, having performed in Vanities in 1977 and Sextet in 1979.'

On television she had a role in The Syndicate.
