Old King Cole is a British nursery rhyme first attested in 1709.

Translations and adaptations
There have been a number of stage versions of the nursery rhyme, including:
- a pantomime, with music composed by William Pickerill for the Cape Town Orchestra in 1930.
- a play written in 1972 by English writer Ken Campbell[1].
- a version by Verne Morgan.
Performance history of Campbell's play in South Africa
1975: A children's production staged at The Space (Cape Town) in 1975, directed by Brian Astbury with Bee Berman, Bill Curry, Vincent Ebrahim, Andrea Fine, Mick Goldberg, Blaise Koch, Glen Morris and Richard Morrison. Design by Adrian Kohler.
1986: Morgan's version staged in St Stephens Hall by St Stephens Pineland's Repertory Society, directed by Hazel de Jager.
1993: NAPAC Drama 1993.
