Sibahle Mabaso is a multidisciplinary theatre maker and educator.

Biography

Training

She recently obtained her BA (Hons) Drama (cum laude) and Theatre Arts Degree from the University of the Free State and in 2023 was pursuing her Master of Arts, specialising in Gender Studies.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She debuted a theatre production titled Where Does the Sun Wait Before It Rises? at PACOFS, addressing society’s response to womxn in the LGBTQIA+ community within the South African cultural kinesphere.

Her play, Khanya and Her Golden Dream, was showcased at Teksmark 2023.

Awards, etc

She is the recipient of the Katinka Heyns Award for Best Film Student (2021), as well as the Elsa Krantz Medal for Best Artistic Achievement by the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts (2021). She was recently awarded as one of Sunday World’s Unsung Heroes for 2023, under the category for Youth in Community, Sports, Arts & Culture.
