The Barnstormers, Cape Town
The Barnstormers is a Cape Town based theatre group founded by Jill Fletcher and other local writers and performers to give regular children’s entertainments at the Old Barn Theatre and at schools in the vicinity. Their other aim is to expose and develop South African playwrights. To this end they have monthly meetings where new plays are read and seek to raise funds to produce them. Such adult plays are then taken to various centres.
In 1998 they organised a South African Play Festival at the Baxter Theatre and in 2000 they premiéred Jill Fletcher's play André Huguenet – Meneer! with a professional cast at the Arena Theatre at the Nico Malan Theatre Complex in Cape Town.
