How We Held the Square is a children's play created by David Creggan in collaboration with the repertory company of the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham and was first staged there under the direction of Philip Hedley in October 1971.

In South Africa it was performed in the Arena Theatre in December 1974 by students of the UCT Speech & Drama Department under the direction of Sue Broer. The cast consisted of Stuart Robinson, Etienne Puren, Peta van Blydenstein, Peter Henshall, Jenty Welchman, Marilyn Myers, Moira Mason, Merryl Hendler, Jonathan Rands, Clifford Lilley, Jaci Osrin and Shalamith Gavronsky. The choreography was by Sue Parker and the costumes by Helen Rooza.
