La Paix chez soi ("Peace at Home") is a comedy in one act by French dramatist Georges Courteline (1858-1929) [1].


The original text

The play was first performed on 25 November 1903 at the Théâtre Antoine, directed by André Antoine and became part of the repertoire of the Comédie Française in 1906.

1971: Staged by PACT in Afrikaans as Vrede Tuis, it played in the SATU Hall, Pretoria, from 29 June to 2 July. Forming part of a month-long Etensuurtoneel (Lunch Hour Theatre") programme, offered by the company as part of the 1971 Republic Festival celebrations, it was directed by Truida Louw, George Ballot (Theo) and Annette Engelbrecht (Valentine).

1975: Performed in Afrikaans as Vrede Tuis by the Universiteitsteater Stellenbosch in the H.B. Thom Theatre in October, directed by Ria Olivier, starring Jannie Blanckenberg, Eugenie Kemp and Elmé Gildenhuys.

1978: Vrede Tuis performed in the Libertas-teater in Stellenbosch on 17 March as part of the USAT Dramafees by students of the residences Pieke and Huis de Villiers of the University of Stellenbosch. Directed by Antoinette Wilkenson, with Pierre Rossouw and Keriesa Botha. Stage manager Gert Roux, assisted by Fanie Fourie and Hendrick van der Merwe.
