''De Jonge Kunstskilder'' ("The Young Painter") by ****. First formal production of a play in Afrikaans. A translation of the Dutch play. Directed by “Oom Lokomotief” (“Uncle Locomotive”- [[D.F du Toit]], editor of Di Patriot), and performed in a private house at Daljosafat near Paarl and at Montagu shortly after 1860. An unidentified companion piece, with the characters "Mandeville" and "Plof" was also performed. In the Montagu production the stage consisted of planks set on wine barrels, draped with a carpet from the Montagu hotel. (See Binge, 1969, Bosman 1928, Du Toit, 1988)
