The surname Langerman (or Langermann) occurs a number of times in F.C.L. Bosman's writings on 19th century theatre in Cape Town.
However, there is some confusion about the Langerman family's inter-relationships and the precise role of each in the Cape theatre, for Bosman (1928) lists three people, namely an F. Langerman, a J. Langerman (or simply refers to either one as Langerman), while his 1980 book refers to a person only known as Langermann. We treat them as separate individuals below.

F. Langerman (fl.1830s)
Biography
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Based in Cape Town, a young man billed as F. Langerman was apparently the star player of the youth company Kunst en Smaak in 1835. For example he played the leads in both Incle en Yariko and De Dronkaard (31 October, 1835), as well as "Aballino" in Aballino Junior, of De Kleine Bandiet (De Lima) and "M. Morbleu" in Monsieur Tonson (Moncrieff) on 21 November 1835, repeated on 31 November 1835 by the same company.
J. Langerman (fl.1849-1855)
Biography
A Cape Town company manager.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Bosman (1928) lists a J. Langerman as one of the founding leaders of the resuscitated Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst (1849-1855). It could possibly be a reference to the same person he referred to earlier as F. Langerman - or it may be a relation.
Mr Langermann (fl.1865-1873)
Biography
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Someone simply referred to as Langermann appears to have been a member of and actor for the Cape Town based amateur company Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst over the years. , but in his 1980 book Bosman refers specifically to a Langermann as a member of the company in the years 1849-1855 and again in 1865-1873. This was most probably the same person as the J. Langerman he had previously listed as a member of the company Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst in the period 1849-1855.
