The original text
A sketch of love crossed by family pretensions, it was first performed and published in 1846.
First represented at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket on June 27, 1846 and published by Webster and Co., Suffolk in the same year. Also published in the collection The dramatic and poetical works of Westland Marston (Vol. 2) by Chatto and Windus, London, 1876.

1846: Performed as part of the final production in the Victoria Theatre in Pietermaritzburg, on 1 April 1850, along with The Child of Nature (De Genlis/Inchbald).
