First performed in London at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on June 11, 1863 and published in London by Thomas Hailes Lacy, in one volume with The Grin Bushes by Henry James Byron.

Performance history in South Africa
1866: Performed as Easy Shaving by the Le Roy-Duret Company in the Harrington Street Theatre, Cape Town (and probably on tour in the Eastern Province), as afterpiece to The Flowers of the Forest (Buckstone).
