The theatre was opened on Thursday October 13 1983 with a production in Afrikaans of Hamlet (translated by L.I. Coertze). Playwrights who have had new work premiered here include Pieter Fourie and Nico Luwes. The 1820 Settlers Foundation annually has its High School Festival here, as do the ATKV (?*).
