WASSENAAR, Theo(dorus) (1892-19**) was an Afrikaans poet and Greek classicist who translated works into Afrikaans. Studied medicine in Amsterdam, and became an optician in Pretoria. His publications include a personal work entitled Uit my Griekse Dagboek (1939) that reveals his love for the Greek classics. Wassenaar also did a series of translations of these classics including Koning Oedipus (1937), Antigone (by Sophocles) (1975) and Elektra (1977). He published a volume of poetry entitled Gedigte in 1919.
