He appeared in productions of The School for Scandal (1952), Tea and Sympaty' (as Tom, 1954), Dark of the Moon (The Witch Boy) and Romanoff and Juliet (1958)
He was the scenic designer for Taubie Kushlick’s production of The Rope Dancers.
John spent two years in England playing for the Buxton and Canterbury repertory companies and returned to South Africa in 1958.
