Marcel Marceau (1923-2007)[1] was a famous French mime artist.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He visited South Africa a few times in the 1960s, starting when the National Theatre Organization, in collaboration with Taubie Kushlick, brought him out to South Africa in 1962. He later also performed at the 1964 Johannesburg Festival and again at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre for ACT in 1967.
His influence on South African mime has been profound.
