The original text
The play is a stage adaptation of the Afrikaans novel of the same name by Annelie Botes (1957-)[1]. The novel was originally published in Afrikaans by Tafelberg in 2001, then translated into English as Riddle Child and published by Penguin in 2004, and deals with the issue of autism and a mother's attempts to deal with it.

Performance history in South Africa
2003: Botha's play was first performed at the Woordfees and the KKNK festivals in 2003, directed by Marthinus Basson, with Antoinette Kellerman, June van Merch, Neels van Jaarsveld and Lorraine Burger.
