Battle! Scenes from Germany, the translation into English by Tjaart Potgieter of Die Schlacht: Szenen aus Deutschland a play in five scenes by Heiner Müller (1929-1995).

The original text
Though written in the 1950s, Die Schlacht: Szenen aus Deutschland was first produced simlutaneously at the Volksbühne, East Berlin and the Hamburg Deutsches Schauspielhaus in 1975.

Performance history in South Africa
1981: This was the opening production at the Glass Theatre from 17 September to 3 October 1981, directed by Laurens Cilliers and Tjaart Potgieter starring themselves and John Nankin, Mike O'Brien, Sandra Temmingh, Robert Colman, Jake de Villiers, Nicola Militz, Pamela Mills, David Rosen, Filumena Telo and Guy Willoughby. Designed by Chris Pretorius, costumes by Ena Heese, soundtrack by Roelof Temmingh, properties by Pauline Corfe.
