The original text
Adapted for the stage from the original screenplay of the 1984 film by Dean Pitchford, with music by Tom Snow, lyrics by Dean Pitchford and additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Logins and Jim Steinman.
Premiered in 1998 and became a Broadway and West End hit. Remade as a film in 2011.

Staged by the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society in 2007, directed by Robin Williams.
2009: The first production at The Mandela, Joburg Theatre (the new name of the Johannesburg Civic Theatre), starring Carlo McFarlane (Ren McCormack), Norman Anstey (Rev Shaw Moore), Judy Ditchfield (Vi Moore), Carmen Pretorius (Ariel) and others.
