The play is about two lonely spinsters whose mundane existence is disrupted by the arrival of an Italian prisoner of war. This results in much verbal manoeuvring and rituals of domination and submission between the sisters and a strong sexual tension developes as the sisters play out their longing for him. First performed by the [[Johannesburg Reps]] on 26 August at the [[Carlton Hotel Ballroom]] in 1945.
