Hilton Gibson (1959-200*) was an IT specialist and the creator of the ESAT website.
Gibson studied at Durban University of Technology (Nat Dip T3, Electronics and Instrumentation 1984 – 1987). Married to Donna Newey (divorced in 2000), and has three children, Kirstin Mackrill, Amber Gibson, Heather Gibson. He passed away **
He joined the University of Stellenbosch in 2001 as IT specialist and from 2008 was employed in the central campus library to assist on projects that include: SUNScholar (January 2008 to Present): an Institutional Research Repository for Stellenbosch University ;Maties Ubuntu: Campus help wiki for Ubuntu Linux and SUNJournals (the implementation of a platform to host (open access) online journals is a collaborative effort between the Library and Information Service and departments and units affiliated with the University of Stellenbosch, in support of the mission and strategy of the University).
