Biography
He holds a BA Honours from the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg) and has worked in Durban theatre since 1994.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Beginning his professional in the final year of NAPAC's Loft Theatre Company, followed by three years in the Playhouse Puppet Company. He was a co-founder of Creative Madness, a theatre company which created many successful children’s shows, and in 2000 formed the production company KickstArt, producing, designing and directing a range of plays, including Ben Elton's Popcorn, The Importance of Being Earnest, Keely & Du (FNB Vita Award 2002 for Best Production), Private Lives, Steel Magnolias, The Memory of Water, Proof, Table Manners, Run to Ground, Crimes of the Heart, Art and the award winning The Mystery of Irma Vep.
As designer:
He has worked on countless productions for various companies over the years, among them Greig Coetzee’s Seeing Red, Educating Rita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Nunsense, The Sound of Music,Valley Song (CTO), Rigoletto (Opera Africa), Bravo and My Fair Lady (Playhouse Co.).
Working with Steven Stead and Kickstart, he did Laughing Wild, Dangerous Liaisons, Dracula, Winnie-the-Pooh, The Road to Mecca, The Jungle Book, Oleanna, Shirley Valentine and the pantomimes: Snow White, Aladdin, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
He has been a regular winner of the Durban Theatre Award for Best Set Design and for direction (e.g. for Proof in 2004, Popcorn in 2006 and for The Mystery of Irma Vep in 2007.
