The National Arts and Culture Development Foundation (NACDF) is a registered non-profit organization supporting the arts.
Not to be confused with the state funded National Arts Council of South Africa
The foundation
Founded by artist and businessman Thabo Konopi, its aim is to in 2008 to address the need to improve human resource skills, economic development and business education levels within South African creative industries. The foundation, chaired by Konopi, seeks to provide educational programmes that that can build sustainable capacity, encourage excellence and advance business expertise for underprivileged South African artists. The primary intention is to empower artists by building their business knowledge base necessary to protect their rights and economic interests in their respective industries.
The other stated aim is to identify, promote and facilitate broad based export opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and companies within the South African creative sector.
In 2021 Konopi also founded the Soweto Arts and Culture Festival (SACF) as a community development project, curated by the National Arts and Culture Development Foundation (www.nacdf.org.za), which the festival.
