The original text
Predominantly written in isiZulu, with some English dialogue, it is a piece about Matlakala, a woman born to a drug addict, who must face the same challenges as her mother when she herself becomes a parent.
Inspired by a poem by playwright Napo Masheane, the play was conceived and written by Godfrey Thobejane in 2011 for a class production for the author's students at the Monnyth Art House in Pretoria.

2011: Performed by the author and his former students at the Market Theatre Laboratory's Zwakala Festival, where it came out the winner. Co-directed by Khethiwe Dlamini and Godfrey Thobejane, the large cast included: Khethiwe Dlamini (Madlakala/singer), Shirley Mtombeni (Mrs Nqobo/Singer), Tshepiso Manhique (Ophinias/singer), Sizile Khumalo (Thokozani/singer), Sphumuzo Sidzumo (Zazi’s Father/singer), Katlego Makatu (Thandi/singer), Lesego Chabedi (Zazi/singer), Tshepiso Mokoena (prostitute/singer), Mbalenhle Grace Magubane (social worker, singer), Brian Maloka (Grandfather/singer), Ditebogo Kgotseng (police/singer), Tshepiso Mabaso (Mlomo/singer), Tsholofetso Ngobeni (singer).
