Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert (1940 – 2010) [1] was a South African brilliant academic, political analyst, businessman and politician. He is best known for having been the leader of the official opposition — the Progressive Federal Party (PFP) — in the House of Assembly from 1979 to 1986. He was also a one-time Chancellor of the University of Stellenbosch.
Contribution to South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance
Usually referred to as Van Zyl Slabbert, he was a member of the Libertas Teaterklub in Stellenbosch while he was a student and later lecturer at Stellenbosch University. Among his appearances for them were in Die Ander Vuur an Afrikaans version of Terence Rattigan's The Deep Blue Sea
