The original text
Originally titled Temptation, or The Price of Happiness when completed in 1849, later changed to Temptation, or The Irish Emigrant
First performed under that title at Burton's Theatre, New York, in 1856, with Brougham playing the lead. Later known simply as The Irish Emigrant, or in some cases as The Irish Emigrant, or Temptation.
Published in New York as Temptation, or The Irish Emigrant by Samuel French, 1856 (as French's American Drama. The Acting Edition. No. 20).

1876: Performed in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town by the Disney Roebuck company, under the management of C. Wilstone, on 17 and 19 October, with Lord Dundreary (Taylor).
1877: Performed by Disney Roebuck and his company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 25 August, with Leah (Daly/Mosenthal).
