He was a member of the Alfred Dramatic Club (later the Royal Alfred Dramatic Club) in the period 1860-61. In March of 1861 he temporarily bid the amateur theatre a farewell to put on a "Grand Entertainment" of his own in the Theatre Royal. The event included a performance of negro songs by Mr D'Urban's Ethiopian Minstrels, a Grand Drawingroom Entertainment called Music under Difficulties, or The Composer in Search of Quiet by Mr St George and Mr Chester (St George himself performing 15 roles), and ended with a Grand Ballet Divertissement by the Spanish Dancers, featuring "Les Senoritas Georgini, Burtoni, Lurlini and Senor D'Urban".
In 1868 he once more put on four "Drawing-Room Entertainments", a mix of an art exhibition (on the theme "Pen and Pencil Sketches, The Sea, City Village and Veld"), a talk on the art and amusing songs by St George, and a by him performance of Our Rehearsal, described by F.C.L. Bosman (1980, p242) as a "kostelike transformasiestukkie, met manlike en vroulike rolle (i.e. "an amusing little transformation piece with male and female parts") and credited to "St George".
