Jamie Uys (1921-1996) was an actor, scriptwriter, director and internationally renowned South African film maker.
Biography
Born Johannes Jacobus Uys, he became popularly known as Jamie Uys.
Uys passed away on 29 January 1996, of a heart attack in Johannesburg..

Film work
Eventually he produced 24 films, writing and directing most of them, and starring in a number as well. Among them have been some of the most popular South African films of the twentieth century, including Daar doer in die Bosveld, Daar doer in die Stad, Rip van Wyk (1960), Lord Oom Piet, Dingaka (1964), Beautiful People (1973??), The Gods Must be Crazy (which enjoyed three years of uninterrupted screening in the United States of America and was a cult movie in Japan).
Awards
Prizes for his work included the 1981 Grand Prix at the Festival International du Film de Comedy Vevey for The Gods Must be Crazy and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association award for best documentary in 1974 for Beautiful People.
