Biography

Michael was born in Kimberley.

Training

He studied Drama at the University of Cape Town Drama Department.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He worked at The Space in the 1970s, acting in Fairy Tales of New York, A Flea in Her Ear (1978), McCarthy, The Resistable Rise of Arturo UI, Sticks and Bones and The Slab Boys. In the time he and Richard Grant also co-directed Candaules Commissioner and Dolls, he co-wrote The Final Sting of the Dying Wasp and was a designer on Sticks and Bones.

Together with Richard E. Grant he directed the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of Kafka's The Metamorphosis starring Steven Berkoff, Henry Goodman, Fiona Ramsay and Ian Roberts at The Space and the Market Theatre in 1980.

Other productions include Travesties (1977), Cold Stone Jug (1980/81), Oedipus by Ted Hughes, The Metamorphosis, Lunatic and Lover (1982).
