Mdu Kwenyama (19**-) is a theatre performer, choreographer and director.


Biography

Kweyama originally trained as a contemporary dancer at Jazzart Dance Theatre, before he went to the University of Cape Town's Drama Department, where he completed a Performance Diploma in 2004, an Honours Degree in directing and education in 2012 and a Master's degree in Directing.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His stage performances over the subsequent time cover a wide range of work, including such substantial works as Macbeth, Hamlet, Verkeer, Altyd Jonker, Karoo Moose, and Onnest'bo.

He was also the choreographer for Karoo Moose.

As director he has been responsible for, inter alia: Brothers in Blood (2013), Return of the Ancestors (2014), Missing (2015)

TV work includes roles Shooting Stars, Stokvel and Montana.

Awards

2004: Best Student in Movement Recognition at UCT and in

2006: Nominated for Best Newcomer in Dance and Acting at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.

2008: Two Naledi awards for Best Actor in a Lead Role and Best Original Choreography for Karoo Moose.

2013: Best Director award at the Setkani Festival in the Czech Republic for Brothers in Blood
