The Unspeakable Story is a documentary danceplay by Gary Gordon and Reza de Wet (1952-2012).
Contents
The original text
Conceived and choreographed by Gary Gordon, the work used an original script by Reza de Wet. Based on an experience in the life of the surrealist painter René Magritte, the work consists of six scenes: The Mirror, The House, The River, The Funeral, The Dream, The Cycle. The original musical score was created by Leonhard Praeg.
The work won the 1996 FNB Award for original contemporary choreography and dance.
Performance history in South Africa
1995: First performed in Grahamstown by the First Physical Theatre Company, choreographed by Gary Gordon with a cast including Andrew Buckland, Athena Fatseas, Ilona Frege, Juanita Finestone-Praeg, Nathalie Gmür, Craig Morris, Lanon Prigge, Samantha Pienaar.
1996: Performed by the First Physical Theatre Company 7 to 10 February 1996 at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre, the cast including Andrew Buckland, Athena Fatseas, Ilona Frege, Juanita Finestone-Praeg, Nathalie Gmür, Craig Morris, Lanon Prigge, Samantha Pienaar. Choreographed by Gary Gordon.
